Essential Tools for Home Renovation

2 min readDec 13, 2021

Home renovation involves basic knowledge about carpentry combined with owning the right tools. People planning to remodel their homes may need to perform various tasks that include roofing, plumbing, electrical wiring, basic carpentry, drywall work and demolition. Here is a list of essential supplies required for home renovation projects:

Tool Pouch

A tool pouch is a necessity because the handyman needs a convenient place to store their tools.

Reliable, Sturdy Hammer

A hammer serves its purpose when a renovator needs to demolish a building. However, an ordinary hammer will not do the trick sufficiently. Demolition requires a solid-steel hammer featuring a ripping claw.

Hammer Loop

In addition to a tool pouch, a hammer loop serves as a necessary home for various hammers.

Two Types of Brooms

An ordinary broom does not provide enough cleaning power on its own. To illustrate, a hand broom and an exterior push broom are useful sweeping tools. Of course, a remodeling project also requires a sturdy dustpan used for sweeping dirt and debris from the floor. Safety demands using durable brooms.

A Shop Vacuum

Some surfaces may require shop vacuums instead of brooms. For example, it is impossible to sweep debris from wall openings. Consequently, a remodeling job requires using a reliable shop vacuum.

Masks for Protecting the Lungs

Wear a dust mask when dusting, drilling or sweeping. A dust mask with a respirator may work better after working with plaster. Covering the nose and mouth protects nasal passages and lungs.

Old Clothes or Coveralls

Home renovators should wear the right clothes before they begin any remodeling jobs. Traditional coveralls protect the entire body, especially when crawling in areas filled with excessive amounts of dust and dirt.

Safety Goggles

Wearing a pair of safety goggles protects the eyes from debris and helps to prevent unforeseen accidents involving eye damage.

A Variety of Pliers

Diagonal pliers, ironworker’s pliers, bolt-cutting pliers and side-cutting pliers help home renovators cut old nails and thick materials.

A Collection of Saw Blades

Different types of saw blades enable cutting out pieces of plywood, plastic, hardwood and even steel. Renovators should own various saw designs, including jigsaws, circular saws and reciprocating saws.
